From Los Angeles to Anchorage
July 8

Heather updates her Facebook status to inform her friends and family
that she's sitting on a plane to Anchorage, Alaska

The vacation began as a need to escape from the relatively condensed urban jungle that is Los Angeles.  The previous year we took a six-week long road trip from coast to coast and were looking at driving the Alaska Highway.  It would have been a bit too rough for Heather's car, so we entertained the idea of taking a cruise to Alaska and were browsing the various cruiselines and ships and ports-of-call to see which one would suit us best.  By the time we had a date that we knew we'd be able to take the trip, most of the cruises had sold out, so we looked at other options.  I had expressed an interest in seeing Denali National Park, and figured if we were going on a landtour, we might as well go up to the Arctic Circle, and if we were going up to the Arctic Circle, we might as well go see the Arctic Ocean, and if we were going all the way up to Prudhoe Bay, we might as well just go all the way up to Barrow.  With that plan in mind, we looked at tour packages online and found one on www.alaskatours.com that encompassed all that we wanted to see in Alaska this first trip there.  A short while later we found ourselves sitting on a plane to Anchorage to begin our Alaska Adventure!
